Gothenburg's pubs, bars and nightclubs should stop serving alcohol at 2 am, according to a new report. The suggestion was presented to Gothenburg's politicians on Wednesday.
Currently, many nightclubs and restaurants in Gothenburg have permission to sell alcohol until 5 in the morning. But the police want to change the closing time to 3 am. As Gothenburg's politicians couldn't agree on the closing time, the alcohol researcher Fredrik Spak was assigned to write a report on the connection between public health and opening times of nightclubs and restaurants.
According to the report, violence increases with every hour the nightclubs and restaurants remain open. Fredrik Spak also refers to experiences in Norway, where several towns have stopped selling alcohol after 2 am, reports GP.
