Citizens' visions for the future Gothenburg on display

Linda Genborg 2012-04-17

2,800 people have given their thoughts on the vision for Gothenburg’s future city centre Centrala Älvstaden. A summary of their ideas and opinions will be presented at Älvrummet and Stadmuseet on five different occasions, starting on Wednesday, April 18.

“We have collaborated with school classes, done workshops with residents in different parts of the city, met a whole heap of organisations, talked to students, had discussions on plazas around the city and organised city walks, just to mention a few of the methods,” says project coordinator Camilla Näslund to the City of Gothenburg’s news site Vårt Göteborg.

“We have tried to find patterns in what people have said and summarised them. It’s exciting because there a handful of very strong reoccurring opinions. It’s about green areas, the traffic landscape and accessing the water.”

During the presentations at Älvrummet and Stadsmuseet, the main opinions from the citizens will be presented in a slide show. There will also be two short films, one that explains what the project is about and one where children from Gothenburg talk about their ideas. The opinions from the public will also be related to conclusions from workshops with architects and experts. According to Camilla Näslund there are a lot of similarities and a strong consensus.

The summary of the ideas and opinions from the public will be one of several inputs to the process of formulating a vision and strategy for the area, which will be decided in the municipal council after the summer.
