Up to 1,000 litres of diesel spilled into Gothenburg's harbour on Monday afternoon, reports P4 Göteborg.
The spill was discovered in Ryahamnen just after midday on Monday. It extended from the Älvsborgsbron bridge to Skarvikshamnen, mostly on the Hisingen side of the river. By Monday evening the slick was under control.
The leak was due to a cleaning operation that saw Göteborgs Oljhamnen (Port of Gothenburg) flush an old pipe with warm diesel. A leak in the pipe led to the diesel spilling into the harbour, Lars Magnusson from the emergency services told P4 Göteborg.
