British actor and playwright Andrew Sheridan will star in Expectations, the upcoming production from the Gothenburg English Speaking Theatre.
Sheridan was in Gothenburg during the winter as his play Winterlong (Vintertid) was being shown at Stadsteatern. This was when he met fellow Brit and director of Expectations Gary Whitaker.
Two months later, a contract was signed and rehearsals are under way. Sheridan joins a cast of four including the playwright Kristina Brändén Whitaker.
Expectations is a comedy based on her own experience. It's about two expecting couples that are faced with having a child with a disability.
"The play has been in my head for a long time. When I gave birth to my first daughter I longed to hear about people in similar situations. It is important to shed light on this topic that can often be taboo and very difficult to talk about," says Kristina Brändén Whitaker in a press release.
Expectations premieres at Folkteatern on April 18.
Over the last decade, Andrew Sheridan has performed on stage and screen in series such as Clocking Off and Shameless, and the Joy Division biopic Control. Winterlong was his debut as a playwright.
