The eighth edition of the Planeta festival kicks off on Wednesday, November 2. Music and dance from around the world, including Egypt, Morocco, Cuba, Mozambique, Greece and India, are in focus.
Held over five days, the festival includes 25 concerts, 11 workshops, 10 events for children and a seminar on the role of music in the Arab Spring. Most events are held in Gothenburg, but some are in Trollhättan, on the south coast and in Lysekil.
Some of this year's major acts include Egyptian pop-star Hakim, Arabic-Western fusion artist Natacha Atlas, Cuban big-band Manolito y su Trabuco, Indian sitar player Preetam Banerjee & the Anubhab trio, and Senegal's Sadio Cissokho & Golden Kora Band.
