An independent commission will examine the Gothenburg bribery scandal.
At first the political majority in Gothenburg, the Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Greens, only wanted an external operator to examine if the city has done enough after the revelations of briberies within municipality administrations and companies. The focus would be on the future. But the opposition, the Moderats, the Liberals, and the Christian Democrats, wanted an independent commission that would also look backwards.
The positions were locked, but on Friday, the group leaders in the municipality board presented a compromised proposal in order to strengthen transparency and reduce the risk of irregularities.
According to the vice chairman of the municipality board, Jonas Ransgård (the Moderats), a formal decision can be made on Wednesday next week.
- We leave it to the City Audit to determine the assemblage of the commission. Then the commission will decide the time and budget it needs to do its assignment, he tells GP.
