Gothenburg's City Director Åke Jacobsson will leave his position. The decision was made on Wednesday and was first believed to have been taken in connection to the Upp project scandal. A source told GP that the Gothenburg bribery scandal and now the Upp scandal have led to that the "trust has been consumed".
However, Åke Jacobsson denies that his resignation has anything to do with the Upp project.
- No, what happened there is very unfortunate but this has nothing to do with it. We even discussed if we should announce this now, as it would be connected to Upp, Åke Jacobsson told GP.
The decision was made during a meeting between Anneli Hulthén (Social Democrats), Jonas Ransgård (the Moderats) and Åke Jacobsson on Wednesday.
- We are simply sick of each other, Åke Jacobsson told GP. It has been an extremely difficult time and I don't think I could face all the challenges that lay ahead.
- There have been various development projects, and on top of that the bribery scandal, which I devoted much energy to. It has sucked the life out of me. The decision is good for me, the politicians and the city.
Åke Jacobsson will leave his position at the turn of the year.
