A week with international focus. For the second year in a row, the University of Gothenburg is hosting Global Week, a week of activities and events where important global issues that affect higher education are in focus.
Global Week is designed for students, staff and guests from international partner universities. Among other things the aim is promote increased mobility among students, teachers and administrators, as well as to increase the knowledge of global questions and to stimulate an active debate regarding the role of internationalisation within and outside the university.
Opening the week-long event is Global Forum at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre on
November 21. The theme is
The global struggle for competence and the day includes a series of seminars and panel disussions held in both Swedish and English.
December 8 marks the 20th anniversary of dissolution of the Soviet Union and the official end of the Cold War. On
November 22, some of the most significant figures behind its dissolution will participate in the seminar
Armageddon Averted: Insiders' Reports from the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. They will reveal what really happened leading up to this historic event and what the significance was for Europe and the rest of the world.
On
November 23 the main event will be a seminar on global collaboration -
Faraway does not exist any longer - how do we meet the consequences involved? And on
November 25 the main event is a TED seminar held at the university titled
Water: there is no living without it.
These are just some of the highlights of Global Week 2011. Between November 21 and 25 there are many more seminars and workshops, as well as international days at different faculties, pub nights, a career fair and even a language cafe.
