The Liberals want to make it easier for foreign professionals to come to Sweden and work. The party presented their proposal during the politicians' week in Almedalen, Gotland, on Wednesday.
- Financial growth is no longer tied to machinery, and the countries that succeed in attracting highly qualified and skilled people will perform much better, said Jan Björklund, Liberal Party leader and minister of education during a speech in Almedalen (cited in TT).
The proposal suggests that people with a Master's degree, should be allowed to come to Sweden on a "job-seeking" visa, without having to secure employment before they arrive. However, the applicants must speak Swedish or English and be able to support themselves. Guest students should be granted a six month visa after graduation in order to apply for employment in Sweden.
The Liberals also suggests that people with experience in running their own business and who have some initial capital should be able to come to Sweden and set up a business.
The proposals come from the Liberals. But Jan Björklund said he will pursue the questions in the government in the hope to turn them into real policies.
- They are in line with the view on employment and labour immigration that the government has held previously (cited in TT).
