Gothenburg's International Science Festival begins on May 10. Over 100,000 visitors are expected to the more than 300 different program points. A main event and new for this year is the Science Roulette in the Wheel of Gothenburg. 42 researchers from a variety of fields will take a seat in each and every one of the Ferris wheel gondolas and give 15 minutes lectures on their area of expertise. The science festival is the largest in Sweden and will go for six days.
- Our aim is to bring research and science to the public, especially the young, and preferably through new ways. The Science Roulette is one such experiment and it is also a way to celebrate that we turn 15 years-old, says the project leader Katarina Thorstensson.
Over 300 researchers from ten countries will take part in the festival this year. And the annual conference for science events, EUSCEA, will be held in Gothenburg at the same time.
- We are also a meeting place for researchers and that is a side that we want to develop further. One example is our Science Lounge, where researchers can mingle and learn from each other.
The festival has made a conscious effort not to only focus on the natural sciences.
- We have chosen to be multi-disciplinary and don't hesitate to lift forward a variety of subjects, high and low, says Katarina Thorstensson.
