A notorious stretch of the Swedish National Road (Riksväg) 40 will be upgraded to a dual carriageway road. This means that oncoming traffic will be separated all the way from Gothenburg to Stockholm.
After many years of delays a 17 kilometre stretch between Dållebo and Hester will be upgraded from a single carriageway to a separated motorway, writes the newspaper Göteborgs-Posten (GP). It is currently considered one of the most dangerous roads in the country.
"Hence, in a few years we will have a very safe road between Stockholm and Gothenburg," says Infastructure Minister Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd (M), to GP.
Work on the 17 kilometre stretch can begin this August and may be completed in the autumn of 2015. The estimated cost is about 1.3 billion kronor.
The Swedish National Road 40 runs between Gothenburg and Västervik. The stretch Gothenburg-Jönköping is part of the most used route between Gothenburg and Stockholm.
