During the last three weeks the number of influenza cases has risen sharply in the Västra Götaland County.
The Infectious Diseases Unit (Smittskyddsenheten) at Region Västra Götaland (VGR) has seen a doubling of influenza cases, mostly type A (H3N2), from one week to another. There has also been a large increase in calls to the medical advice line regarding children with flu like symptoms.
According to Per Follin from the Infectious Diseases Unit at VGR, for people in the high risk groups, now is the time if you wish to get the flu vaccine. It takes roughly two weeks to reach the full protective effect of the vaccination.
