Gothenburg a green hotel city

Ben Kendall 2012-04-11

More than 80 per cent of Gothenburg's hotels are now eco-certified. The aim is for Gothenburg to be the greenest hotel city in Europe.

“It strengthens our global competitiveness if we are a sustainable destination,” says Stefan Johansson, chairman of the organisation Göteborgshotellen, in a statement.

Göteborgshotellen has 31 member hotels of which 84 per cent are eco-certified. Among the city's larger hotels the figure is even higher.

“Of all the cities we compared, Gothenburg is the best. The goal is to have 100 per cent [eco-certified],” says Katarina Thorstensson, project leader of Sustainable Gothenburg, in a statement.

Sustainable Gothenburg started two years agos with the aim of making Gothenburg the most sustainable destination in the world in terms of transportation, hotels and venues for conferences and entertainment.
