British-Swedish drug maker AstraZeneca has reported a pre-tax profit of 18 billion kronor for the second quarter of 2011. This compares with 19 billion kronor posted in the same quarter last year.
- The result is in line with our expectations and we are well positioned to reach our targets for 2011, said AstraZeneca's CEO David Brennan in a telephone conference (cited in GP).
David Brennan also highlighted the heart-drug Brilinta, which was approved in the US last week. The drug is now approved in 41 countries, but it will take some time before it makes significant contributions to the company's sales.
