Sports bars in Gothenburg

Ben Kendall 2011-09-13

If you enjoy your sports on the big screen, surrounded by fellow supporters and opponents, you will be happy to know that there are loads of sports bars and British pubs scattered throughout Gothenburg. And they are not only based in central Gothenburg, two good alternatives are Tidbloms at Olskrokstorget and the Red Lion at Mariaplan.

Football and hockey are the most televised sports, but if your interests lie elsewhere, some locales also show the rugby, cricket, NFL and basketball.

Here is a guide to some of Gothenburg's sports bars and pubs.

Cheers - Viktoriagatan 10
Focuses on football, but also shows rugby, cricket and other sports by request. Intimate sports bar with good atmosphere and cheap food and drinks.

Plain Kitchen - Risåsgatan 8
A lively sports bar located in a side street near Linnégatan. Shows mainly football and hockey.

Glenn Sportsbar - Andra Långatan 4b
A new sports bar that has loads of screens with good views from every seat in the house.

The Dubliner - Östra Hamngatan 50 B
Large Irish pub that shows a wide variety of sports including football, rugby and cricket. Serves up classic Irish pub food like Irish stew and beef and Guinness pie.

Flying Barrel - Kristinelundsgatan 3
This cosy Irish pub has a decent sports section with many TVs. It shows both Premier League, Champions League and hockey.

Paddingtons
- St Pauligatan 1
Classic British pub with a good selection of beers and whiskey. Shows a range of European football leagues and also some cricket and rugby.

Tidbloms - Olskroksgatan 23
Good-looking British pub with atmosphere. Shows the big games from Premier League, Champions League, La Liga and Swedish hockey. On the downside, they only have a few TV screens.

O'Learys - Östra Hamngatan 37
A large sports bar in the middle of town. It has many screens and shows a wide range of sports including hockey, NFL, football, tennis, basketball and motorsports. Claims to be Sweden's number one sportsbar.

O'Learys Central -Central Station
A relatively new sports bar located at Gothenburg's central station. It is part of the O'Learys chain and screens the same sports as the Östra Hamngatan bar.

The Red Lion - Mariagatan 11.
Mostly Premier League, but also some Allsvenskan and other matches. Very cosy British pub but it can be difficult to find a table with a view of the TV screens.

Hemmaplan - Karl Johansgatan 92
A sports bar in Majorna which has several large screens and a few smaller TVs above the bar. Focuses on football and hockey. Big clashes draw big crowds.
