April 30 is Valborg's night and in Gothenburg that means it's time for the annual Chalmers Cortège. The Cortège is a big street parade that has been running since 1909. It is a big deal in Gothenburg and draws a crowd of around 250,000 people.
The Chalmers Cortège is organized by the students of Chalmers University and this year a bit over 800 students have taken part in building around 24 floats. Each float holds students satirically depicting significant public events that have taken place in the past year - word on the street is that BP's oil spill and Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi will feature in this year's parade.
- A lot of events have taken place during the year that we can joke about, and our builders have taken advantage of that. There will also be many clever and impressive technology solutions, says Linus Färnstrand, public relations director of the Chalmers Cortège committee.
The parade starts at 18.15 and goes from Chalmers to the city centre. The designated route is from Gibraltargatan - Läraregatan - Viktor Rydbergsgatan - Kungsportsavenyn - Vasagatan - Aschbergsgatan - Läraregatan - Gibraltargatan.
