Boplats Göteborg is hosting a student day on August 25. It's a last minute chance to find a student apartment or room.
- But you can't count on finding accommodation just by coming here. It's important to be here early to have a chance, says Maria Yhlén Jordan, project manager at Boplats Göteborg.
One of the largest municipality-owned landlords in Gothenburg will offer around 15-20 newly renovated apartments in Bergsjön.
- At the theme day you can submit your interest in a viewing, but then it is completely up to the landlord to decide who will get the contract.
70 to 80 percent of those that have come to previous years' student days have been international students. Maria Yhlén Joran thinks there will a similar situation this year.
- In some countries outside the EU it is natural that the universities organise accommodation. Therefore many international students are completely unprepared for our housing situation when they land here.
To support students with an urgent need for a roof over their head, Boplats has also invited private house and apartment owners with a room to let. This way they get the opportunity to meet potential tenants face to face.
John Lindholm runs Linné vandrarhem. Last year he rented out 15 rooms to international students. This year, he wants to rent out 30 rooms.
Lennart Ekenäs from Askimvikens Studentbostäder will also be at the student day.
- We have renovated ten student rooms in an attic in Askim. They are fully furnished with a nice view over Askimsviken (the Askim bay). We have six rooms left in different sizes, from 11 to 18 square meters.
The Boplats student day will be held on Thursday, August 25, from 11:00-16:00. Boplats Göteborg is located at Rosenlundsplatsen 1.
