The Panel: Favourite swimming spots

. 2010-07-10

Göteborg Daily's panelist give you the low-down on where to get wet this summer.

Cristina
I have three favourite spots for swimming:

Ganlet. You can take the bus all the way to this rocky beach in west Gothenburg (Västra Frölunda). It's very beautiful, only rocks, and it has great views of the sea. To get into the water you have to either jump from the rocks, or climb down one of the ladders.

Vrångö
. Take the ferry to the beautiful island Vrångö. When you get there walk past the soccer field and continue for about 20 min to find cute little bays, clear water, and a mix of small sandy beaches and rocks. And hopefully no jellyfish! The water views from Vrångö are also beautiful, many small motor boats and sail boats pass by.

Lelången. This is a lake close to my country house in Dalsland, so it's a bit further from Gothenburg (2, 5 hours...). This is my favourite lake for swimming. I love diving in from the deck.

Hugh
My favourite spot for a swim in Göteborg would have to be out at Saltholmen, or in one of the many little lakes dotted around the city. At the lakes, you can go ten minutes on a bus but feel like you're a million miles away from anyone. The west-of-centre beaches are relatively easy to get to with a car and, amazingly enough, there are even strips of 'sand' for those looking to get tropical. I'm not a massive fan of swimming off the rocks, though, which Saltholmen and surrounds has a lot of. Take the extra time and get on the ferry to the islands if you want to avoid this often painful and jellyfish-ridden experience.

Karen
Lysekil- because that's where the family is- and so we head there a lot. It is GORGEOUS if you hit it on a good day. People bobbing around with their thermometers to make sure it is at least 18C. Hilarious.

Carlos
For swimming I think the coast down near Halmstad has some of the best spots. There is a long sandy beach just north of Halmstad that is probably my favourite. Otherwise, the sandy beaches at Falconberg and Varberg are also good options... I like sand!
