Skiing in the Gothenburg region

Finally winter. The cold seems to be here to stay for a while. But don't despair; it provides excellent opportunities to actually enjoy the outdoors through some wintery sports. Here's a quick guide to the ski slopes in West Sweden:

Alebacken, Ale
Two slopes, the longest slope is 450 m.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: Adults 160 kr, youths (aged 8-17) 120 kr, children 60 kr (0-7).
Café, picnic areas. Possible to rent skis.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri, 18:00-21:00, Sat-Sun 11:00-17:00. Check out "Öppettider" on their website for up-to-date information.

Aktivitetsbacken, Vårgårda
Three slopes, two lifts. The longest slope is around 450 m.
Vårgårda also has cross-country skiing tracks and a toboggan slope.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: Adults 160 kr, children and youths (0-14) 120 kr.
Café, BBQ and picnic areas. Possible to hire skis and snowboards, as well as toboggans. Ski school during the weekends.
Opening hours: 10:00-16:00 on weekends. Wednesdays also 18:00-21:00.
The slope is located about one hour by car from Gothenburg. On the weekends there are also trains from Gothenburg's Central Station to the slope. Sat: departs 9:02 from Gothenburg, Sun: departs 8:02 from Gothenburg. The ride takes about 40 mins.

Brudarebacken, Delsjön Brudaremossen

One slope (around 300 m) with two lifts.
Brudarebacken has a café with warm drinks, soup, hot dogs, and snacks.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: adults 150 kr, youths (6-14) 120 kr, and children up till five years old can ski for free.
Opening hours: weekends 11:00-16:00. It's possible to make group bookings during weekdays.
Get there: Bus 17 to Trätorget, Björkekärr. There's a car park about 400 metres from the slope.

Falköping Alpin, Falköping
Four slopes and four lifts.
Also cross-country skiing, ski school and skis for hire. Restaurant and café.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: adults 170 kr, youths (8-15) 110 kr, and free for children up to 7.
Opening hours: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri 17:00-21:00, Sat-Sun 10:00-17:00
Getting there: located at Gläntanvägen, Mösseberget, which is almost 2 hours from Gothenburg by car.

Isaberg, Gislaved
Ten slopes, the longest is 1000 m.
Isaberg also offers cross-country skiing, restaurants, BBQ and picnic areas, and warming huts.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: Adults 280 kr, youths (born 1997-2005) 240 kr, children (born 2006 and later) 130 kr.
Opening hours: weekends 9:00-16:00, weekdays 9:00-17:00, on Thurs and Fri also 17:30-21:30.
Isaberg is located around 1.5 hours by car from Gothenburg (120 km)

Mullsjö Alpin
Seven slopes and five lifts.
Skis and snowboards for hire. Ski school and children's slope. Restaurant and café.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: adults 220 kr, youths (7-15) 180 kr, and children 90 kr.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 9:00-16:00, Sat-Sun 9:00-17:00, Wed and Fri also 18:00-21:30
Located about 1.5 hours from Gothenburg by car. Road 40 to Bottnaryd, then drive towards Mullsjö, signs to the slope from the village Nyhem.

Ulricehamn's Ski Center
Seven slopes, the longest slope is ca. 850 m.
Restaurant, cafes, BBQ areas, warming hut. Ski school, children's slope. Snowboards and skis for hire.
Prices for a day pass lift ticket: Adults 260 kr, youths (aged 7-14) 220 kr, children (0-6) 120 kr.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 9:00-16:00. Sat-Sun 10:00-17:00. Wed and Fri also 18:00-21:30.
The slope is a bit over 1 hour's car ride from Gothenburg (100 km).
