The inauguration of Clarion Hotel Post will stop all public transport at Drottningtorget for two hours on Thursday evening. The inauguration will among other things include a free outdoor concert for the public. So many people are expected to show up for the concert that Västtrafik has decided to stop all public transport there between 18:00 and 20:15.
"It's about accessibility and safety. A lot of people could show up for the free concert and we do not want to risk lives by driving trams at Drottningtorget," says Hugo Lepik at Västtrafik to GP.
The decision to allow the outdoor concert at Drottningtorget was taken at the highest political level in Gothenburg.
Clarion Hotel Post's owner, Norwegian hotel giant Petter Stordalen, wanted to make the free concert into a yearly event. But here the city of Gothenburg said no. The problems for the public transport system are enough for one year.
On Thursday evening most tram routes will turn around at Brunnsparken and Polhemsplatsen.
