This year's International Science Festival is drawing near. From May 10-15 the festival will take science and research out on the streets of Gothenburg. The programme has been finalised and can be found on the web. Two highlights are the Science Roulette in the Wheel of Gothenburg and the Creative Workshops in Nordstan.
- On May 10 we will fill the Wheel of Gothenburg with 42 researchers who are specialised in different fields. You step into a gondola without knowing which researcher you will meet and are then given a 15 minute lecture. It's our way to celebrate that we turn 15 years and it is free of charge just like everything else during the festival, says Anna Forsgren, programme manager.
The workshops in Nordstan are open all week. The workshops will give people opportunity to create and develop their ideas with the help of a variety of experts in everything from music to game development.
- We did a workshop in mini format as a part of our preparations, and it is fantastic what can happen when people get together. We really want to be an experiment arena for research communication.
The main arenas for this year's festival are Pedagogen at Grönsakstorget and Nordstan. And the festival will include hundreds of seminars by both Swedish and international researchers.
Two of the English programme points include Leticia Britos Cavagnaro, a creativity researcher from Stanford University, who will talk about how to make the design process as creative as possible, and the exploration life scientist Jennifer Ngo-Anh, who will talk about the simulation of a human mission to Mars. Six people are isolated for 500 days and gather data, knowledge and experience to prepare for a real mission to the planet.
The full programme can be found here (English programme starts at page 49).
