The around 900 engineers that Volvo will hire in Gothenburg in the near future will primarily work with product development. Increased diversity and a variety of perspectives are on the company's wish-list.
- We need new, young and hungry engineers from different backgrounds and with different perspectives so that we get another view on technology solutions, said Paul Welander, head of Product Development, to GP.
- This is a clear sign that we are investing in Sweden. Both that, and that we get young competency is very pleasant. A young workforce sharpens our minds, said Magnus Sundemo, head of the union Sveriges Ingenjörer at Volvo Cars, to GP.
The director-general of the Public Employment Office, Angeles Bermundez-Svankvist is also pleased with Volvo's aspiration for diversity.
- I think there are plenty of engineers if you look in the right places. For example people that were born outside of Europe and who may have worked as engineers before they came to Sweden. We can support them with complementing education.
The Public Employment Office is assigned to help quota refugees into employment. And according to Angeles Bermundez-Svankvist, the money could be used to purchase education that fits in with Volvo's needs.
