Gothenburg's oldest espresso bar Mauritz Kaffe, which was set to vacate in September, will now remain in its Fredsgatan premise until the turn of the year.
In 2010 a rent dispute between the café and the building's owner Hufvudstaden resulted in the Rent Tribunal maintaining the then current rent for a period of two years. But in September 2012 the café's rent will more than double, and it therefore cannot remain in the Fredsgatan premise. It has been there since the 1970s.
"We have tried to help find a new location, but the problem is there are so few retail premises in central Gothenburg. But we have had a dialogue with the owner to extend until the end of the year. We have shaken hands on it," says Daniel Massot from Hufvudstaden, to Göteborgs-Posten (GP).
Hufvudstaden has plans to renovate and freshen up the area where Mauritz Kaffé is currently located, writes GP.
