A young girl, believed to be around ten years old, has been stabbed in the neck outside the primary school Bergsgårdsskolan in Hjällbo, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
The girl is seriously injured and has been taken to Sahlgrenska Hospital.
The attacker is reportedly around 20 years old and remains at large. A large number of police patrols are searching for the man in the area. The police say they have good descriptions of the man.
The girl has told the police that she did not recognize the attacker.
"The motive is not yet known," says police spokesperson Björ Blixter to Göteborgs-Posten.
"The girl has been brought into surgery. Then she will remain sedated until tomorrow. I have no information that her injuries would be life-threatening," says Björ Blixter.
The scene of the attack is sealed off by the police. The attack is classified as attempted manslaughter.
