The ruling Red-Green coalition in Gothenburg wants to trial a six-hour workday at full pay to see if it creates more jobs and improves employee health, writes the Metro newspaper.
The trial would go for at least one year and concern one or more municipal workplaces, possibly within elderly care. It would then be assessed by researchers.
The municipal executive committee will discuss the proposal on Wednesday, April 9.
The opposition parties, however, are critical and have accused the Red-Greens of populism ahead of September's election.
The Red-Green coalition consists of the Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Greens.
