Way out West - August 14. James Mercer (singer-songwriter of The Shins) and Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley) are two of the most inspiring musicians around. Together with five accomplices, they were at WoW with their psychedelic indie side project - Broken Bells.
James Mercer has a great voice. It's high-pitched and beautiful! I was expecting it to hit the back of the Linné-stage tent and beyond - it didn't. Unfortunately on most tracks it was dampened by the seven instruments and failed to blow me away. As for Brian Burton, he shifted between the keyboard and drums and provided his trademark spacey noises and beats.
Overall the show was good and had several high points. The melodic TheHigh Road and Vaporize were definite highlights, and Ghost Inside demonstrated the impressive falsetto of Mercer.
