Review: Iggy & the Stooges

Ben Kendall 2010-08-14

Way out West - August 13. Iggy & the Stooges may be in their mid-60's but they still know how to put on a show. It was loud, dirty and damn good.

Raw Power, the first song of the day hit the large audience like a punch in the face. Arms were in the air, heads were bobbing and Iggy's veiny, leathery torso was exposed - his shirt came off after the first three seconds of the show.

The band was in good form and so was Iggy. His vocals were quite good, but it was his stage antics that made the show. He was doing his wriggle-torso-dance thing, was on his hands and knees, was spitting on himself, made several visits to the crowd and rolled around on the ground. Not bad for a 63-year-old.

Iggy seemed genuinely surprised to attract such a large audience and they were definitely there for the band. Arms were waving and people were dancing and singing throughout the hour-long set.

A highlight came when Iggy invited people from the crowd to come on stage. Around 30 lucky fans danced and sang in the middle of the stage together with the legend Iggy Pop.

They finished the show on a high with two cracking songs, Open up and bleed and No fun.
