Review: Outshine

Oana Georgescu 2010-12-01

Sticky Fingers - November 27. It's 22.30 on Saturday night at Sticky Fingers. Jimmy runs around with a beer in his hand trying to say "hello" to everybody. He seems a bit nervous but also pleasantly surprised by the number of people who have come to listen to Outshine. He is the guitar player and founder of Outshine.

"For how long will you play?" I ask. "Maybe half an hour if people hate it and start shouting at us," Jimmy jokes.

Outshine performed exquisitely for a whole hour on the small stage at Sticky Fingers. They delighted the audience with older hits such as "Love for the music", "I'm sorry", "Bad things always end bad", but also with new songs from the album which will be released in spring 2011. E.J.'s unique voice had a great impact on the public and his charm struck a chord with the female fans.

Another pleasant surprise was Reine Svensson - the new bass player of the band. He seemed to fit in perfectly and completed the dark heavy sound of the band. And speaking of the sound, I must confess Outshine sounds incredibly much better live than on Spotify! The melody, the hardness and the metal tones combine in a magic formula that makes Outshine a reputable rock band.

The band managed to make the fans jump or at least shake their heads and raise their arms up in the rock sign. In the end the audience's request "en gång till" (one more time/bis) turned into one more shot for E.J. and the performance of "White wedding".

Outshine is a metal band from Gothenburg. Their first song was recorded in 2005 and the first album - "Bad Things Always End Bad"- in 2007. The band has received good reviews so far not only in Sweden but also internationally.
