Review: Soundtrack of Our Lives & Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra

Ben Kendall 2010-08-14

Way out West - August 13. The Flamingo stage was filled as local band Soundtrack of Our Lives teamed up with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. This was a show I've been looking forward to since it was announced earlier this year, so expectations were high.

I felt like I was listening to the soundtrack of an epic Hollywood film. But to be honest, I was a bit disappointed, especially in the first 20 minutes of the set. It was epic and emotional, but somehow a bit flat.

But, things picked up as the show moved on. And the songs Second life replay and Instant repeater '99 marked the first highlights as the orchestra, band and vocals combined well creating a powerful sound.

There were rumours that Noel Gallagher would make a guest appearance. Unfortunately they were wrong - no Ebott-Noel duet this time in. Instead there was a one-song duet with Tommy Blom from Swedish band Tages, an ok replacement.

Next highlight and crowd favourite was the inspirational The passover. The audience sang-along and couples were arm-in-arm as Ebott left the stage and sang with his fans.

They finished on a high with a classic rock-country number with some slide guitar and the orchestra in full force.

Rating: 3/5
