A new artistic campus at Näckrosdammen. There are plans to merge the artistic institutions of the University of Gothenburg to one faculty. The faculty would be located at Näckrosdammen, and the goal is a science park like the ones at Lindholmen, Sahlgrenska and Johanneberg - but with an artistic focus.
The university envisions a cultural passage that includes institutions like Göteborgs Konsthall, the City Library and the Göteborg City Theatre. The passage will stretch through the Renströmska parken down to Korsvägen where it connects with the city's event passage. New larger and more inviting stairs up from Korsvägen to the University Library will make the passage more accessible.
The local government commissioner Jonas Ransgård (Moderats) is positive to the idea. He tells GP:
- The university has the economy for expansion and needs the locales. And in this case we would like them to complement it with for example student housing in the upper levels to avoid the area being emptied of people at night-time.
There are no local plans or building permits for the project as of yet.
