A few tips for your summer break

Linda Genborg 2011-07-26

The steamboat Bohuslän (Ångaren Bohuslän)
Take a cruise through the archipelago on the last passenger steamboat on the west coast. There are both local tours through Gothenburg's archipelago and longer tours to islands and harbours further north. Most tours depart from Stenpiren.

Älvsborgs Fästning (Fortress)
The fortress is located at the mouth of the Göta Älv (the Göta River) and was built in the 17th century. It has played an important part in Sweden's history. Guided boat cruises to the fortress depart daily from Lilla Bommen in Gothenburg. The company that runs the cruises is called Strömma.

Strömma archipelago cruises
Several different cruises depart from Lilla Bommen, next to the Gothenburg Opera house. Tickets are sold at Gothenburg's tourist agency and through the Strömma website.

Daytrip to Denmark - Stenaline
Take the ferry to Denmark for the day! Stay in Fredrikshavn for a nice lunch or some shopping, or continue to Skagen to see where the two seas, Kattegat and Skagerak meet.

Rock climbing

In Utby and Fjällbo, just outside Gothenburg, there are excellent opportunities for rock climbers of all skill levels. The height varies from 10 to 60 metres.

Paintball
One for adrenaline seekers. The Paintball Fabriken in Billdal has paintball for groups 8-150 people.

Golf
Fancy a round of golf? The Gothenburg region has around 30 different golf courses, everything from green and lush forest to seaside courses. A list of the different courses can be found at: goteborg.com

Canoes & Kayaks

The archipelago and the many beautiful lakes and streams offer some picturesque locations for a paddle. Canoes can be rented at Fiskebäck, Delsjön and Vättlefjäll.

Fishing
The Gothenburg region is well known for its good fishing. Catch everything from salmon and sea trout to redfin perch and pike. It's free to fish in the ocean and the Göta Älv, all the way up to Göta Älvbron (bridge). To fish in the lakes and streams you need to purchase a fishing card.

Sea-fishing tours also depart from Gothenburg's harbour during the summer and autumn.

Strömstad/Grebbestad/Smögen
The beautiful Bohuslän coast and its coastal towns is well-worth a day-trip visit, or maybe even a weekend getaway.
